Culture
Known as the "City of Culture," Taichung has many cultural facilities. The famous ones include the Taichung Library, Chung-Hsing Concert Hall, Wen Ying Art Gallery, Municipal Cultural Center, Folk CulturePark, National Art Gallery, etc. to hold artistic activities for the local people. The number of artistic activities the city is hosting and the total viewing population are the highest among all cities in Taiwan. There are more than 100 artists in the city.
The classical old buildings and temples are another characteristic of the city. Taichung Railway Station, Taichung City Government, Taichung Lake Pagoda, Temple of Lin's Family, Wan-he Temple, Le-chen Temple, etc. are famous ones.
The annual "Tauten Literature Prize" and "Tauten Fine Arts Prize" encourage all local artists to get together for a competition. In Wen Ying Art Gallery, there is a special exhibition room for traditional printing arts. Besides, lacquer and glue color painting are two of the local art forms.
In order for the younger generation to learn the traditional arts, the local elementary and high schools offer training programs of dragon dancing, god patrol parade, paper
cutting, puppet show, Beijing opera, folk dancing, music, and sculpture, etc.
